Thought to originate from Central or Southern Mexico .
Fast growing evergreen shrub with downward pointing, red , pendant flowers. Flowers look like they are just about to open- but never do.
Blooms from summer to first freeze ( here in N Central Fl , until January or so)
Fairly drought resistant
Does well with minimal care
In tropical areas, these plants do best in light shade, while in more northern areas, a site in full sun with afternoon shade is best.
In hard freeze areas , it dies back to the ground and reemerge in spring and blooms by early summer
