Golden berry - Physalis peruviana -Cape gooseberry
Originally from Peru & Brazil
A great source of of vital nutrients including beta-carotene, protein (16%), bioflavonoids, and vitamin A and is one of the only fruits to have a complete range of B Vitamins, including B12, which vegans know is difficult to find in plant form.
A really healthy snack, and their sweet & tart flavor great in salads, yogurts, oatmeal, cookies and desserts , marmalade & and as dried fruit.
Easy to grow. Needs plenty of water. BUT no need to fertilize. Fertilizer seems to promote excessive leaf growths & might not set fruit at all. Without fertilizer plants will produce plenty of berries
In frost free areas, it is a perennial. In light frost, can just cover it up . In colder areas, can be grown as annual
Ready for harvest in 14-16 weeks after planting.
MATURE HEIGHT: 3-5 FT
