Medium sized, pyramid shaped evergreen tree . It is native to the Mediterranean region
Aromatic leaves are used for cooking & has an essential oil that is used in perfumery. Used in French, Italian, Spanish and Creole cooking.
It is grown commercially for its aromatic leaves in Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Spain, Italy,Portugal, Mexico & France.
Best in rich, moist soil. Once established it is very drought tolerant
Slow growing, so minimal pruning is needed. Great for pot culture.
Also used for hedges & topiary.
Pick bay leaves early in the day and dry quickly under weight so they won't curl. Best to store in an air-tight jar.
MATURE HEIGHT: In cultivation 3-12 ft in its native range 40-50ft
