Variegated Calathea -Calathea louisae var. Variegata
The Calatheas belong to the 'Prayer plants ( Marantaceae ) family. The name refers to the fact that these plants have the ability to fold their leaves at night, as it gets darker and darker, and unfold at first light in the morning They can also adjust the surface of their leaves to the best source of available light and when they receive too much light they will fold up their leaves.
This variegated form is hard to come by-
Each and every new leaf holds a surprise, since variegation is not uniform. Every leaf will be different with little or lots of white on them.
Calatheas require at least 50 - 75% shade.
Makes great houseplant or in zone 8 & higher , a beautiful addition to any shade garden.
They like high humidity. If air is too dry, leaves will have brown edges.
Do not like constant moist soil-so allow soil to dry just a bit between waterings.
